Capital Projects are important..

What are Capital projects? They are the nuts and bolts of our city's infrastructure. Most of these projects you don't see right in front of you, but they are the projects that make our local economy hum, and are important for our public safety services and our education system.

For too long the City has ignored these maintenance issues and they can be costly if they are not done quickly. For example, we are proposing to replace the roof at Park Avenue School, replace water pumps at Broadview Middle School, improve longstanding drainage issues around the city, and replace much needed IT equipment at Danbury High School. None of these projects are unique to community, but they are important.

Bonding $500,000 per project is a new practice (as a matter of policy, for years the mayor has always recommended borrowing just $500,000 as an annual cap) but it is the only way we can get ahead of longstanding infrastructure issues- and it is the right thing to do.

Our most recent Capital Improvement Plan totals a fantastic $297,027,817!!! That is why it is critical that we begin these to address these ongoing issues. While I recognize that these are tough economic times, and that we must be diligent with our dollars, if we cannot afford not to do these projects..

All the Best,
Mayor Mark
