On Thursday, the City of Danbury and HRRA filed a petition with the Attorney General of the United States of America to ask the federal government to transfer the Transfer Station located at 307 White Street to the City of Danbury or the newly created Danbury Solid Waste Authority.
The crux of our argument is that the greater Danbury area has been harmed by the "property rights system" that the government says was in effect for the last two decades, and that by the very nature of the conspiracy (since the property rights system stifles competition) it is impossible to calculate the monetary damages to the communities that were victimized.
Accordingly, both the City of Danbury and HRRA believe that the only way to compensate the victims of the conspiracy is to give us the Transfer Station.
We are in the process of talking to our federal legislative delegation to get an appointment with the Attorney General or his senior staff to discuss the petition. We are also asking the court to delay the auction of the facility until the Attorney General Eric Holder has an opportunity to review and rule on our petition. You can read the document here.
